A year and a half later, I'm studying Psalms

June 2008 was the date of my last post. What a lot has happened since then! It is interesting to see how God has matured me even in such short a time, through Him.
I've been studying Psalms and God has met me in my readings over the past few weeks. My notes have been jotted in my journal, but I thought to share tonight's selection with the blog world.

Psalms 19:1-3 tells us:
"The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
Day to day pours forth speech
And night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard."

What an awesome testimony to the creator! If the beauty of what we see in the heavens, if the greatness of everything that our deep space telescopes can show us have been created by our Savior and God, how much more awe inspiring and incredible is HIS beauty and HIS majesty?
The rising and setting of the sun pours forth speech and the appearance and disappearance of stars reveal knowledge, all of our King, the creator of each piece we see hung above us!

Throughout the rest of the Psalm David starts talking about the Word of God, declared through the heavens and through His word to us.
Versus 7-8 are so powerful:
"The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes."
What an amazing picture of what immersing ourselves in not just God's word but in awe of everything He has created and done for us can do - it will restore our souls, make wise those who are simple, rejoice our hearts, and enlighten our eyes. It is especially interesting to take these verses and apply them back to verses 1-2 where the psalmist tells us that the sun, moon, stars, and all of nature are actually speaking forth God's word.

By reading the Word He has written and that nature displays for us we find restoration, wisdom, joy, and enlightenment!
